The course of the Olympic Games - Days 3 and 4

The actual games began. The participants were young men above 17 years of age. Initially, Olympic competition was only run for about 200 meters. Over time more sports were involved forming pentathlon competition. As a sign of the judge, players ran to the finish line as quickly as possible. Great difficulty for runners was impractical treadmill, which didn't have the shape of an ellipse as it is today, but was just a staight section, so players had to stop, turn away and run back. Also jumpers invented quite original tool for themselves. For longer jumps they held weights of metal or stone in their hands. Javelin throw was also very important discipline due to the fact that soldiers used the spear during battles. Greeks also had the discus throw competition. As in modern times there was only one winner in pentathlon, but there weren't any honours for second and third places.

There were also chariot races with two or four horses. These races were wonderful to admire, but very dangerous to practice, as horses often do not stop at the finish line and speeding expert " drift away " or collide with each other on the road. However, the riders and owner of the team gained great fame. Horses naturally too.
